The Simpson Strong-Tie HITB Series is a top flange joist hanger designed to simplify and reinforce I-joist to I-joist connections—without the need for backer blocks. With models such as HITB200/47 through to HITB300/91, this range supports a variety of joist depths and widths, delivering structural integrity, installation efficiency, and code-compliant performance for engineered floor systems.
Backer-Free DesignEliminates the requirement for backer blocks when fixing into I-joist headers, reducing material costs and installation time.
Bottom Flange Location TabsHelp accurately position the hanger on the header, holding it in place during fixing for quicker, hands-free installation.
Open Top FlangeImproves accessibility for nailing and simplifies installation on-site—ideal for use in tight floor cavity spaces.
Optional Fixing HolesAdditional nail holes provided to boost download and uplift capacity, offering structural flexibility as needed.
Steel Reinforced StrengthManufactured from pre-galvanised mild steel for strong, corrosion-resistant performance in protected structural environments.
Reduces Installation TimeNo backer blocks mean less preparation and faster on-site joist integration.
Improves Build AccuracyIntegral tabs and top flanges ensure precise alignment and consistent fit, reducing call-backs and structural errors.
Flexible Structural CapacityOptional nailing patterns allow performance to be tailored to the specific load demands of the application.
Ideal for Multi-Header SystemsSupports use on multi-joist headers (using MJC connectors or filler blocks) where greater bearing width is needed.
Prepare Header:Connect supporting I-joists using MJC connectors or filler blocks per the manufacturer’s guidance.
Position the Hanger:Place the HITB hanger against the I-joist header. Ensure bottom flange tabs are tight to the underside of the bottom chord.
Secure Face and Bottom Flanges:Fill round and obround face holes with nails. Drive nails into bottom flange holes.
Fix Top Flange:Flatten the open flanges onto the top chord of the header. Use a minimum of four nails per flange (two front, two rear).
Secure Bottom Chord Tabs:Bend tabs over the top face of the bottom chord, and nail through obround holes.
Install Carried Joist:Insert joist into stirrup. Nail through the designated round and obround holes into the joist face.
⚠️ Note: Web stiffeners are mandatory when using the HITB and HITB-LT to prevent web buckling under load.
Engineered timber floor systems (I-joist to I-joist)
Multi-header I-joist framing
Joist connections in residential or commercial timber structures
Floor assemblies requiring reduced fix complexity
Always follow Simpson Strong-Tie’s technical documentation for fastener types, spacing, and load capacities.
For weld-on or steel-to-joist solutions, alternative hanger types should be considered.
Not suitable for unprotected outdoor use without additional corrosion treatment.
