The Simpson Strong-Tie SAI Series is a heavy-duty internal flange face fix joist hanger designed for use in timber-to-timber connections where enhanced structural capacity is required. Suitable for solid sawn timber joists and purlins, the SAI hanger combines a robust design with a clean profile, ideal for concealed or tight-fitting applications.
Internal Flange ConfigurationThe flanges are located inside the joist seat, providing a flush, clean appearance that reduces obstruction in confined or finished spaces.
Heavy-Duty PerformanceEngineered to deliver high load capacity, the SAI range is ideal for demanding timber framing conditions such as truss supports, floor beams, or purlins.
Minimum Width of 91mmThe SAI range is manufactured with a minimum joist width of 91mm. For narrower timber members, consider the IUC concealed flange hanger.
Pre-Galvanised FinishConstructed from pre-galvanised mild steel for enhanced corrosion resistance in dry, internal structural environments.
Fast and Simple InstallationCompatible with square twist nails, the SAI hanger supports quick face fixing without complex alignment or assembly requirements.
Joist Depth CoverageThe hanger depth must be at least 60% of the carried joist depth to prevent rotation. If not, additional lateral restraint must be applied at the top of the joist.
Not for Bolted UseThe SAI series is not recommended for bolted applications. For bolted connections, refer to the SAE series.
For Timber or Steel HeadersAlthough primarily designed for timber-to-timber connections, the SAI hanger can also be fixed to steel or engineered wood headers, provided correct fasteners are used.
Solid sawn timber joist-to-beam connections
Purlin hangers in roof and floor assemblies
Engineered timber to timber joints in residential and light commercial builds
Concealed connections in finished interiors or where flange visibility is limited
Internal flange design avoids interference with adjacent members or hardware
Fast, secure nailing simplifies on-site construction
Clean finish ideal for exposed timber work
Engineered strength for reliable load transfer in heavy-duty applications
Position hanger on the face of the supporting timber member.
Fix using square twist nails through all designated holes, as per the recommended nailing schedule.
Ensure hanger depth covers at least 60% of the supported joist; otherwise, install top-side lateral restraint.
