Restraint straps are commonly used in roofing applications and are designed for vertical & horizontal restraint when connecting timber flooring & roofing systems to masonry walls. Restraint straps, also commonly called holding down straps, come in two grades – light duty & heavy duty. Light duty straps are for vertical restraint and heavy-duty straps are for lateral restraint, as per current building regulations – BS 5268 Part 3

Horizontal lateral restraint straps should be spaced not more than 2m centres and attached to at least 3 timber members through the use of noggings and packing
Attach to timber members using a minimum of 8 no. 3.75 x 30mm square twist nails
The bend length should be a minimum of 100mm and should be positioned at the centre of an uncut block or brick
